The road may be long, but the memories of Chief Reed Schmidt and Chief Trevor Berger ride with us forever. On June 13, 2026 we honor their lives, their service, and their commitment to keeping communities safe.
Reed Schmidt served in law enforcement for nearly four decades, starting as a Perham Police Reserve officer in 1975. He attended the police academy in Arden Hills and was hired on with the Perham PD before being promoted to Assistant Chief in Madison MN in 1982, and later Chief of Police. He went on to lead departments in Goodview, Hennepin County, and ultimately Atwater, where he was appointed Chief of Police in 1996.
In 2003–2004, Reed answered the call to serve internationally, traveling to Iraq as a civilian contractor to train the Iraqi National Police. In 2006, he was severely injured in the line of duty and lost his right eye, but continued serving with strength and resolve. He officially retired in 2012, though he still worked part-time for the Atwater PD until 2015. His love for policing was only matched by his love for family, riding motorcycles, and working alongside his loyal K-9 partners — Max, Fritz, and Dakota.
Born and raised in Atwater, Trevor Berger graduated from ACGC High School in 1998 before enlisting in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Nassau until 2001. After an honorable discharge, Trevor earned a degree in law enforcement from Alexandria Technical College. He married his high school sweetheart, Kate, and began a career that brought him to the McLeod County Jail, Silver Lake PD, and part-time roles with Eden Valley PD and Atwater PD.
Trevor’s dream was to serve his hometown — and he did exactly that. He rose to become the Police Chief of Atwater, leading with compassion, humor, and integrity until illness forced his early retirement in 2021. Known for his quick wit, loyalty, love of NASCAR, Disney, and family holidays, Trevor was the kind of Chief who made everyone feel seen, heard, and protected.
We ride to honor two protectors who lived and breathed public service. We ride to support scholarships that help future officers follow in their footsteps. And we ride because that’s how Reed and Trevor would have wanted it — loud pipes, tight formation, and hearts full of pride.
