No we are not from St. Michael, MN. St. Michael the Archangel is not a reference to St. Michael, Minnesota. Saint Michael is recognized as the patron saint of police officers worldwide. In Christian theology, he is the commander of God’s heavenly army, charged with defending the innocent and standing against evil. He is depicted as a warrior and protector, valued for courage, discipline, and moral authority. For generations, law enforcement officers have invoked St. Michael for protection when facing danger, reflecting his longstanding role as a guardian in times of conflict.
The term Legion comes from both biblical and Roman tradition. In the Roman Empire, a legion was a highly disciplined, organized fighting force built on loyalty, structure, and shared purpose. Biblically, the term legion represents both overwhelming force and collective unity. Together, the name Legion of Saint Michael represents a brotherhood bound by discipline, service, and the commitment to stand together in defense of others, modeled after both Saint Michael’s leadership and the historical meaning of a legion.
Membership in the Legion of St Michael LEMC is open to active and retired Law Enforcement, Corrections, Firefighters, Paramedics, EMTs, and active/reserve/retired or honorably discharged Military personnel.
